Congratulations to our February Member of the Month, Melissa Falcone. Melissa started up with us last October at our charity fitness event. Since then, Melissa has made her health a priority and has made it contagious in her household, in which her husband and son now workout along her side during the classes. Melissa is constantly trying new recipes and new ways to find alternative healthier means with her nutrition. Even with suffering an injury, Melissa didn't use it as an excuse, she pushed through it and found ways to still workout and burn calories. We want to thank you for working so hard when you come in here, for setting an example for your family of your lifestyle change, and for being an amazing person that you are. Thanks for making our fitness center a little more special!
Q: Throughout your lifetime, how long have you been working out for and what do you enjoy most about fitness?
A: Throughout my lifetime, I have not been one maintain a workout regime more than a few months. Add to that the diagnosis and pain of Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia and exercise basically ceased to exist. Weight gain ensued and my energy level plummeted. Then along came some awesome friends that introduced me to K Shan. I love the significant increase in energy, strength and stamina I now possess. If I'm unable to make a class I actually am disappointed. I'm in less pain then I have ever been. Even when I would have joint pain walking into class, it's no longer there when I leave. With my husband, Neal, joining me for workouts, it's like having 'date night'. For the first time, I actually look forward to and enjoy exercising!
Q: Since training at K.Shan Performance, what have you learned the most about fitness as well as about yourself?
A: What K. Shan Performance has taught me is that the effort you put forth are the results you will reap. At K. Shan Performance they provide you with all the tools: fitness instruction, huge POSITIVE support system, nutrition seminars and an awesome facility. If you put forth an effort, you most certainly will see the results you seek. I have learned that fitness is not only rewarding physically but mentally. Stress relief in an hour! I have not only lost weight, went down pant sizes and gained muscle but have increased my self-confidence. The increase in self-confidence has been a positive attribute to other aspects of my life as well.
Q: What do you like most about the workouts? And what is your favorite exercise?
A: What I like most about the workouts are water breaks and the cool down. Just kidding! What I enjoy is a new workout everyday, all planned and waiting for you. The workouts are challenging for every member, at every fitness level. My favorite exercises include: Good Mornings, Single-legged RDL's, Planks, Hip Bridges and Dying Bugs.
Q: What would you recommend to someone looking to start training?
A: You have to take the first step to better yourself. Trash the excuses and do it. My push was imagining what my medical conditions would do to my body years from now if continued to let myself go. Our lives will always be busy. Stop and take care of your well being so that you can focus that energy on everyone/ everything that matters to you. Imagine what you will look and feel like months from now- if you start today!
