Congratulations to our August Member of the Month, Lori! Lori has hit the ground running ever since joining with us this past April during our Summer Slim Down Challenge. She has gone above and beyond to better herself inside and outside of the fitness center. During her first month she made it to a total of 26 classes, lost 3% body fat, and was frequently seen climbing to the top of our rope as her post workout "cool down"! Lori has attended in total 77 classes here at KSP in just a little over 3 months and has been rewarded tremendously for her efforts! She has been an inspiration to many around the fitness center and to us as well as coaches! Way to go Lori, your energy and dedication is contagious!
Throughout your lifetime, how long have you been working out for and what do you enjoy most about fitness?
I have always enjoyed being in shape and feeling healthy. There was a point when I turned 40 or close to it that I didn't take time to take care of myself the way I should and every year, another 10 pounds until I became someone I didn't recognize, obsessed about my weight but still didn't make the time to do anything about it. And one day last year, I said this is it, I need to do this for myself. I started running which I find to be good for your brain just as much as it is for the rest of your body, and I didn't stop. I also started the Advocare program and the changes started happening, and I started feeling good about myself and seeing results. There came a point where I hit a plateau.... I was working out at home, and needed to take things to a different level physically and socially as well... I needed to make the transition to lean muscle and I knew I couldn't do that all on my own. I noticed KSP's posts on social media and it peaked my interest because it was so different.
What I enjoy most is the way it sets the tone for my day by making the commitment and making it a regular part of my day. I enjoy the physical challenge, and pushing myself. I never thought I would be in this kind of shape at 52... never, ever.
Since training at K.Shan Performance, what have you learned the most about fitness as well as about yourself?
This truly has been a life changing experience in so many ways. My original plan was just to do the 30 day Slim Down Challenge.... (I think I have only missed 5 classes since April 23) but once I started, I couldn't stop. I was hooked on the program; the physical challenges and an atmosphere that is enhanced by an amazing gym family. Best part, having the coaches support my goals and push me and encourage me has been priceless.
What do you like most about the workouts? And what is your favorite exercise?
I thoroughly enjoy the diversity of the exercises, and also, how easily they can be modified if necessary. Something different every day and I love it. Favorite exercise: anything lower body ... and I actually love planks and band assisted pull ups.
What would you recommend to someone looking to start training?
Best recommendation would be to know what your goal is and then find a program that fits that. When people ask me or FB message me about KSP the primary thing they state is that going to a gym that is full of weights, machines and so many people that it is intimidating and they never know what to do... so they aren't getting into a program that they can stick with. I respond by describing the program and how it works and focus on the structure and diversity; the importance of everything being explained before it is completed and the support that is received. And just as important, the diversity of our gym fam: ages, body type, and various levels of fitness.
